Meet Dr. Newsome
A native of the Philadelphia area, Dr. Newsome graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1987. She decided to pursue a residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, and she was accepted to Vanderbilt University in both the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Program and the School of Medicine. Dr. Newsome received her medical degree from Vanderbilt in 1990. During her surgical training, Dr. Newsome rotated through the Department of Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt, where she realized her true career passion. Upon completion of her general surgery internship, she began her residency in Anesthesiology. Dr. Newsome completed her anesthesiology residency at Wake Forest University Medical Center in 1994. She then completed a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology in 1995. She also received her board certification from the American Board of Anesthesiology that same year.
Dr. Newsome enjoys teaching and education, as well as research, in addition to clinical practice. She has published numerous articles, including a review of perioperative management of patients with coronary artery stents in 2008. After practicing academic cardiothoracic anesthesiology for a number of years, she began to develop an interest in safety and efficacy of office-based anesthesiology, which she began practicing in 2011. She has a vast amount of experience in this specialty, and she has practiced in a wide variety of clinical settings, which she now brings to Triangle Implant Center. She is particularly thrilled to join the TiC team, as she is finally combining her experience in both dentistry & medicine in an office-based surgical setting.
Dr. Newsome is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, and recertified electively in 2009. She is also a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the North Carolina Society of Anesthesiologists, the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, and the Society of Ambulatory Anesthesiologists.
In her free time, Dr. Newsome enjoys cooking, gardening and participating in local non-profit organizations. She also loves to exercise with her toy poodles and adolescent daughter.
